1968 Chevelle Protect-O-Plate Warranty Card

I have more examples but only list a few examples on this page. If you request help with yours, contact me and I'll be glad to answer any questions you have. Include a photo of the Protect-O-Plate as plants often deviate during the model year.

It has been noted that cars with vinyl or convertible tops did not always have that coded on the Protect-O-Plate. Note the Atlanta example (138378A134536) where the trim tag clearly shows T2 where the Protect-O-Plate shows TT. However, one Fremont example (138678Z106066) does show L1 on the Protect-O-Plate indicating the convertible top color.

Note:  GM offers 2 explanations on decoding the VIN.  Using the common 13637 as an example:
1. When describing the VIN plate: 1 ~ Chevrolet Division, 36 ~ Malibu V8, 37 ~ 2-door sport coupe
...and...
2. When describing the POP: 13 ~ Chevelle, even number (2,4,6,8) is a V8 - odd number (1,3,5,7) is a L6, 37 ~ 2-door sport coupe.

A V8 Nomad/Chevelle 300 would be 2, Greenbrier/300 Deluxe would be 4, Malibu would be 6, and Concours or SS396 would be 8.
A L6 Nomad/Chevelle 300 would be 1, Greenbrier/300 Deluxe would be 3, Malibu would be 5, and Concours would be 7.
(Only 210 L6 Concours were reported built so finding a 13735 Concours would be rare.)
